Have you ever wondered who Jesus Christ truly is and why millions of people throughout history have called Him Lord and Savior? His name is familiar to many, yet His identity and purpose remain misunderstood. For some, He’s a historical figure. For others, He’s a religious symbol. But Jesus is far more than that.

This blog will introduce you to Jesus, explain why He is central to your life, and show the life-changing difference He makes when you choose to follow Him. My hope is that, as you read, you will encounter the love and truth of Jesus in a new way.

Who Is Jesus Christ?
His Identity

Jesus is not just a historical figure or a wise teacher. He is the Son of God, fully God and fully man. The Bible tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us” (John 1:1, 14). This means Jesus existed before time began and took on human form to live among us.

He is the Creator of all things. Colossians 1:16 says, “For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible… all things have been created through Him and for Him.” Jesus is not just part of the story of history—He is the Author of it.

His Mission

Why did Jesus come to earth? His mission was clear: “The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10). He came to restore our broken relationship with God, a relationship fractured by sin. Sin separates us from God, and no amount of good deeds can bridge that gap. Only Jesus could do that.

His Teachings

Jesus’ teachings were unlike anything the world had ever heard. He preached about love, forgiveness, humility, and truth. In the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), He called His followers to love their enemies, to forgive without limits, and to live a life of righteousness that starts in the heart.

His Sacrifice and Resurrection

At the heart of Jesus’ mission was the cross. Jesus willingly gave His life to pay for our sins. The Bible says, “God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). His death was not the end of the story. Three days later, He rose from the grave, conquering sin and death. This resurrection is the foundation of the Christian faith and the proof of His divinity (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

Why Is Jesus Important in Your Life?
He Restores Our Relationship with God

Without Jesus, sin separates us from God. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). But through Jesus, we can be reconciled to God. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

He Gives Purpose and Meaning

Many people spend their lives searching for purpose in success, relationships, or wealth, only to find these things leave them empty. Jesus gives us true purpose: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).

He Offers Forgiveness and Freedom

One of the greatest gifts Jesus offers is forgiveness. No matter what you’ve done, He is ready to forgive and give you a fresh start. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Jesus also sets us free from guilt, shame, and the power of sin (Romans 8:1-2).

He Provides Peace and Hope

In a world filled with stress and uncertainty, Jesus offers peace: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27). He also gives us hope for eternal life. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

What Difference Does It Make to Follow Jesus?
A New Identity

When you follow Jesus, you become a child of God. “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). Your worth is no longer defined by the world but by your relationship with God.

A Transformed Life

Following Jesus transforms every aspect of your life. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). His love changes how you think, how you live, and how you treat others. For example, you begin to forgive as He forgives, love as He loves, and serve as He serves.

An Eternal Perspective

When you follow Jesus, life is no longer just about the here and now. It’s about eternity. “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20).

A Community of Believers

Jesus calls us to be part of His family, the church. It’s a place where you can grow in your faith, find support, and serve others. The early church modeled this beautifully: “They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42).

How Can You Begin a Relationship with Jesus?
1) Understand the Gospel

The Gospel is simple yet profound:

  • Admit you are a sinner in need of a Savior.

  • Believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again.

  • Confess Him as Lord of your life (Romans 10:9-10).

2) Pray to Receive Him

If you’re ready to begin a relationship with Jesus, you can pray something like this:
Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner in need of Your grace. I believe You died for my sins and rose again to give me eternal life. I invite You into my life as my Savior and Lord. Help me to follow You and live for You. Amen.

3) Next Steps in Faith
  • Read the Bible to learn more about who Jesus is (start with the Gospel of John).

  • Pray daily to grow your relationship with God.

  • Connect with a local church where you can find community and grow in your faith.
